The United Kingdom signed the additional protocol to the Warsaw Convention on October 14. The Council of Europe confirmed the UK signature alongside those of seven other countries and the European Union.
The instrument extends cooperation tools for identifying, freezing, managing and confiscating criminal proceeds. It is a Council of Europe agreement, so UK participation does not imply membership of the European Union.
The protocol was adopted in May and opened for signature in Strasbourg at the Octopus conference. Signing is a step in the treaty process, not a statement that every new provision has taken effect domestically. No specific UK seizure or prosecution is established by the signature announcement.
