Canada announced C$11.1 million for 16 projects led by 15 organizations on October 14. The investment comes through the Canadian Space Agency’s Space Technology Development Program, which supports early-stage development and testing.
Supported work includes satellite imaging for emergency response, infrastructure monitoring and environmental applications. Other projects address secure communications, Arctic sea-ice observation and tracking maritime activity across Canada’s North.
The portfolio also includes artificial intelligence intended to improve satellite autonomy and efficiency, plus communications and power systems for future lunar exploration. These are development projects, not announcements that new operational services have already entered use.
The agency says its technology program has invested more than C$130 million in 266 pre-commercial technologies since 2012. The new awards aim to move promising ideas closer to market; successful testing, customer adoption and eventual mission performance remain later milestones.
