Cargo mission launches from Cape Canaveral with station research
NASA’s 35th SpaceX cargo mission lifted off from Florida with more than 6,300 pounds of experiments, supplies and hardware.
A SpaceX Falcon 9 launched a Dragon cargo spacecraft from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 6:33 a.m. Eastern on October 13 for NASA’s 35th commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station.
NASA says the spacecraft is carrying more than 6,300 pounds of cargo, including the final pair of International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Arrays. Once installed during planned spacewalks, the arrays are intended to complete the station’s power-system augmentation.
Research payloads include work on manufacturing artificial retinas in microgravity, three-dimensional heart-tissue models, glass formation and brain organoids. Those experiments are designed to test methods and biological responses; the launch does not establish their eventual clinical or commercial results.
