Boston University is jointly leading NASA’s FarmFlux mission with Goddard Space Flight Center and Colorado State University, according to an agency update published October 15.

The campaign will measure gases and particulates from agricultural areas using more than a dozen sensors. The new notice covers planned low-altitude flights near Transit, Texas, between October 22 and November 9.

Boston University’s role gives Massachusetts a research connection to the program, but the announced flight area is Texas, not Massachusetts or New England. The observations will investigate scientific questions rather than establish local enforcement findings.

A separate 2027 flight phase is planned for the Midwest and California’s Central Valley. Those future operations and any resulting scientific conclusions remain subject to later mission updates and data analysis.
