A planned Ottawa science facility has reached another delivery milestone, with the federal government exercising a construction-management services option valued at approximately C$404.9 million. Public Services and Procurement Canada announced the step October 30.

The Transportation Safety and Technology Science project is located on the National Research Council’s Montréal Road campus in Ottawa. It is expected to bring together approximately 260 employees from the council and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

The facility is intended to connect accident-investigation expertise with transportation research and testing. Planned capabilities cover aviation, marine, rail, road and pipeline safety, including specialized laboratories and shared working spaces. The project forms part of the wider Laboratories Canada modernization effort.

Preparatory work began in summer 2025 and main construction in fall 2026. Substantial completion is expected in 2031. The contractual option and construction progress should therefore be distinguished from an operating laboratory or demonstrated improvements in transportation safety.
