Sir Nicholas Coleridge’s reappointment as chair of Historic Royal Palaces takes effect November 1, according to an October 30 government announcement. The renewed term runs through October 31, 2028, providing continuity in the organization’s board leadership.

Coleridge first became chair in November 2023. His previous cultural leadership includes chairing the Victoria and Albert Museum from 2015 to 2023, and he has chaired The King’s Foundation since 2026. He also held senior editorial and management positions at Condé Nast.

The chair’s role is unpaid. The announcement says the appointment follows the Cabinet Office’s public-appointments governance code and that the appointments process is regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

The notice also records a required declaration of political activity, identifying Conservative and Unionist Party donations during the preceding five years. That disclosure forms part of the appointment record. The announcement concerns a governance term and should not be read as a new exhibition programme, visitor policy or funding allocation.
