Canada announced October 16 that Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin will lead its delegations to the upcoming UN biodiversity and climate conferences. The announcement identifies separate meetings with distinct negotiating agendas.

Biodiversity COP17 is scheduled for October 19–30 in Yerevan, Armenia. Canada says its delegation will focus on implementing the Kunming–Montréal Global Biodiversity Framework, Indigenous leadership and financing for conservation.

Climate COP31 is scheduled for November 9–20 in Antalya, Türkiye. Canadian priorities include resilience, methane reductions, electrification and mobilizing public and private investment.

The government plans Canadian-led side events on nature finance and Indigenous conservation leadership, as well as a national pavilion at the climate meeting. Delegations are expected to include Indigenous representatives, civil society, business, youth and provincial or territorial participants.

These are announced priorities and participation plans, not negotiated conference outcomes. Any agreements, financing commitments or changes to domestic policy emerging from the talks will require separate confirmation after the meetings take place.
