Canada announced C$18.5 million in federal support on October 16 for a C$87.5 million Prevost project intended to modernize its bus platform and manufacturing capabilities. The investment concerns operations in Sainte-Claire, Quebec, rather than a new manufacturing plant in Montreal.
The One Prevost Platform project is designed to accommodate different propulsion systems, including lower-emission and zero-emission options. The announcement concerns development and industrial capacity; it does not establish that every vehicle configuration has entered commercial service or achieved a measured emissions reduction.
Federal support comes through the Strategic Response Fund. The government says the project will help maintain 1,265 full-time jobs and provide 156 co-operative education terms. Maintaining existing employment is different from creating that many new positions, and student work terms are not permanent full-time jobs.
Prevost is part of Volvo Group Canada, whose headquarters are in Montreal. The project links product development, manufacturing and supply-chain work in Quebec. Its practical results will depend on subsequent engineering and production milestones, not solely on the announced contribution.
