US fire report records fewer starts and a larger personnel total

The November 7 national assessment lists 22 initial responses, four uncontained large fires and 391 personnel.

Oakland Sun · News Desk

The latest federal wildfire assessment shows a lighter day of new starts alongside a larger reported workforce. The November 7 situation report lists 22 fires requiring initial attack, down from 57 in the previous report. National preparedness remains at Level 1, while four large fires remain uncontained.

Total personnel in the active-incident summary rose by 49 to 391. The Rocky Mountain area accounts for 94 personnel, an increase of 94 in that table. Eastern-area staffing fell by 39 to 140, and the Northwest total declined by six to 98. These are incident-resource counts, rather than a measure of all firefighters nationwide.

No new large incident or newly contained large fire is recorded. The Eastern area lists no new fires; the Southern area reports eight. The continuing large-fire count and the fall in new starts describe different parts of the operational picture: fewer ignitions do not establish that the remaining incidents have been contained.
