Construction production increased 1.8% in the euro area and 2.0% in the European Union in August compared with July, Eurostat reported October 20. The figures are first estimates adjusted for calendar and seasonal effects. They describe August activity, not construction performed on the publication date.

The increase followed July’s 0.2% gain in the euro area and 0.1% decline in the EU. Compared with August 2025, total construction production was 1.4% higher in the euro area and 2.6% higher across the EU.

The aggregate recovery was uneven. In the euro area, specialised construction activities rose 2.5% from July, while building construction fell 0.4% and civil engineering declined 2.1%. An increase in the total index therefore does not mean every part of the industry expanded.

Among reporting member states, Hungary, Germany and Romania recorded the largest monthly increases. Slovenia, Slovakia and Italy had the largest decreases. National results and sector weights differ, so the European headline should not be read as a measure of conditions in every country or individual city.
