New York City’s Department of Sanitation says there is no trash, recycling or curbside compost collection Monday, October 12, for Italian Heritage Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The change was announced October 7 and applies to today’s holiday.
Residents normally served on Mondays should set their material at the curb Monday evening for collection beginning Tuesday, October 13. The department cautions that a post-holiday backlog can cause delays.
The revised timing does not replace ordinary requirements for sorting and setting out waste. Residents should check their building’s regular route and contact 311 with service questions rather than assume every household has the same collection day.
Sanitation personnel are also participating in the Columbus Day parade and cleaning the route before and after the event. Those assignments are separate from the suspension of household collection.
