New York holiday pauses household waste collection
Monday routes shift to collection beginning Tuesday, with possible delays as crews clear the backlog.
New York City’s Department of Sanitation says there is no trash, recycling or curbside compost collection Monday, October 12, for Italian Heritage Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The change was announced October 7 and applies to today’s holiday.
Residents normally served on Mondays should set their material at the curb Monday evening for collection beginning Tuesday, October 13. The department cautions that a post-holiday backlog can cause delays.
The revised timing does not replace ordinary requirements for sorting and setting out waste. Residents should check their building’s regular route and contact 311 with service questions rather than assume every household has the same collection day.

Under the new Labour Market Integration factor, candidates may receive points for Canadian experience, including additional weight for eligible high-wage work, or for an eligible job offer. IRCC’s detailed guidance says those two routes cannot be combined for points under that factor.
