Severn Stoke puts flood bank and drainage works into operation

The November 6 completion announcement says landscaping will continue after the core flood scheme becomes operational.

Severn Stoke in Worcestershire has an operational flood scheme ahead of winter, according to the Environment Agency’s November 6 announcement. The completed core works combine a bank west of the village, surface-water drainage and a raised road section at the bank crossing. They address flood risk to homes, businesses and infrastructure.

The agency funded approximately £5 million of delivery costs, with Worcestershire County Council adding £250,000. The two public bodies delivered the scheme with contractor Alun Griffiths Construction Ltd. The agency says the work finished ahead of schedule.

Operational status does not mean every associated task has ended. Tree planting, habitat work and fencing are planned over the coming months. The announcement also says the village war memorial will be accessible on November 7 and 8. Previous floods have affected 18 properties, a church, a pub and the A38; those historical impacts describe the reason for the project, rather than new flooding reported this weekend.
