UK MPs call for a timetable on climate adaptation and finance

A November 6 committee report asks ministers to set out plans for domestic resilience and international climate funding.

The House of Commons Energy Security and Net Zero Committee asked ministers for a clearer account of how the UK will prepare for climate impacts at home. Its November 6 report calls for a domestic adaptation plan backed by legislation and a national electrification strategy to help meet the 2030 emissions pledge.

For overseas climate finance, the committee wants a single plan within six months, with commitments spanning multiple years and a separate target for adaptation. It also recommends publishing a roadmap for a fair transition away from fossil fuels by July 2027.

The MPs argued that weak delivery at home undermines the UK’s ability to lead abroad. Their proposals include a common way to rate how different policy areas address climate risks. The report sets out committee recommendations; it does not establish that ministers have adopted them.
