Wildfire activity and staffing moved in different directions in the October 30 national report. Nine large fires remained uncontained, compared with eight in the preceding report, while the active-incident resource summary counted 581 personnel, a reduction of 56.

The report, issued at 7:30 a.m. Mountain Daylight Time, recorded one new large incident and one large fire contained. Initial-attack activity covered 63 fires. National preparedness stayed at Level 1, with several coordination areas operating at Level 2.

The Northwest accounted for 304 personnel in the resource summary. The Southern Area listed 136, and the Eastern Area 113. Across the listed incidents, assigned equipment included three crews, 32 engines and three helicopters. These figures describe resources in that operational summary, rather than every firefighter working nationwide.

Changing assignments and containment figures are reasons to read the report as a dated snapshot. A low national preparedness level does not establish safety at an individual location, and a reduction in assigned personnel does not mean every active fire has been contained.
