People planning eligible study in England during the first seven months of 2027 can now apply through the Lifelong Learning Entitlement system. The Student Loans Company announced the application opening October 30, specifying course starts between January 1 and July 31.

The system covers undergraduate study and certain postgraduate qualifications, including some healthcare and teaching courses. It also includes some provision previously supported through Advanced Learner Loans. Eligibility depends on the course and the applicant’s circumstances, rather than the application opening creating an automatic award.

Applicants use GOV.UK One Login. Available support can include tuition and maintenance loans, with amounts influenced by credits studied, earlier student finance, household income and living arrangements. Applications for the 2027–28 academic year are expected to open in spring 2027.

These are financing arrangements, not a general promise of free tuition. Loan interest begins with the first payment, and repayment follows Plan 5 rules after study ends or is left. Prospective learners need to assess their own eligibility and borrowing terms before choosing a course.
