A completed solar-array installation aboard the International Space Station depended on coordinated work outside the spacecraft, inside it and on the ground. The Canadian Space Agency’s October 30 account confirms that Joshua Kutryk completed his first spacewalk with NASA astronaut Anil Menon the previous day.
The excursion lasted seven hours and eleven minutes. Canadarm2 supplied a work platform for Menon, with NASA astronaut Luke Delaney operating the arm from inside the station and Jessica Watkins providing support. Canadian flight controllers in Longueuil coordinated with teams in Houston.
Canadian astronaut Jenni Gibbons served as capsule communicator, supporting information exchange between the orbiting crew and ground teams. The account illustrates how a visible task outside the station relies on communications, robotics and operational support beyond the two astronauts wearing spacesuits.
A second excursion is scheduled for November 5 to install the final array in the current upgrade campaign. That future operation remains planned. The completed October 29 installation and the October 30 release are separate dates; neither establishes completion of the entire campaign.
