Canada opened the employer application period for its 2027 Summer Jobs program on October 27. Applications are due December 3, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, public-sector employers and private businesses with no more than 50 full-time employees.

Funding can cover up to the provincial or territorial minimum wage and mandatory employment costs for nonprofit employers. Public and private employers can receive support amounting to half the minimum wage. These are program funding terms, not a guarantee that every application will be approved.

National priorities for 2027 include construction, environmental activities, digital skills and exposure to artificial intelligence, along with nonprofit work supporting underserved communities. Positions are intended for young people aged 15 to 30 and must meet the program’s working-time and duration requirements.

Service Canada expects to begin notifying applicants in April 2027, with decisions continuing into summer. Employers should distinguish this application opening from the later hiring period. The department cautions that oversubscription can limit both approvals and the amount or duration of support awarded.
