The European Commission opened a four-week call for evidence and a targeted stakeholder consultation on its forthcoming hydrogen strategy on October 26. Citizens, organizations and industry participants are invited to respond by November 23, 2026.
The exercise seeks input on the strategy’s scope and content before the Commission prepares the document. Its stated aims include a more resilient and competitive European hydrogen value chain and greater stability and predictability for investors considering projects in the sector.
The strategy will be developed alongside the renewable-energy framework for the period to 2040. The Commission connects that work with the EU’s 2040 climate objective and pressure to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels. These are policy objectives, not measurements showing that those outcomes have already been achieved.
Opening the consultation does not itself adopt a final strategy, approve a particular hydrogen project or guarantee financial support. The immediate development is an opportunity to submit evidence that may shape later policy choices. Final measures will require separate decisions after the consultation process.
