The European Space Agency signed a contract with Hungarian spacecraft company C3S to develop FLOTTA, a microsatellite platform intended for communications constellations. The design range covers spacecraft weighing from 50 to 150 kilograms.

The project combines spacecraft engineering with a production system designed for repeatable manufacturing, integration and testing across fleets that could contain hundreds of satellites. HPS GmbH is participating as a subcontractor with responsibility for deployable antenna expertise.

FLOTTA is expected to incorporate end-of-life deorbiting, passivation, trackability, collision avoidance and materials or structures designed to break up safely during atmospheric reentry. Those features respond to both space-debris rules and the operational risks created by larger low-Earth-orbit fleets.

The contract sits within ESA’s ARTES 4.0 and Industrial Competitiveness programs. It begins development and verification work; it does not by itself place a constellation in orbit or establish that the platform has completed flight qualification.
