Houston briefing will preview final space-station solar-array installations
Johnson Space Center will host an October 20 news conference before two planned autumn spacewalks.
NASA announced October 14 that Johnson Space Center in Houston will host a briefing on two upcoming International Space Station spacewalks. The conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. Eastern on October 20.
Anil Menon and Canadian astronaut Joshua Kutryk are scheduled to install the seventh station roll-out solar array on October 29 and the eighth on November 5. The final pair is intended to complete the station’s power augmentation.
NASA says all eight arrays together will raise available power by up to 30%, from approximately 160 to 215 kilowatts. The additional capacity supports research and operations as well as the station’s eventual controlled deorbit.
