The UK government announced October 29 that it will work with industry on two voluntary standards addressing women’s participation in technology. One focuses on workplace culture; the other concerns investment practices affecting founders seeking capital.

The workplace initiative could include trusted routes for reporting harassment. The investment standard could broaden how investors find potential deals and track women-led businesses through successive funding decisions. The measures remain under development rather than already functioning as mandatory rules.

The Women in Tech Taskforce will work with companies and investors on the standards before their formal launch in the coming months. A separate scale-up programme planned for 2027 could offer workshops, peer learning, networking and introductions to investors for women leading high-potential businesses.

The government also highlighted an existing initiative intended to help 300 women obtain technology jobs through mentoring, skills development and vacancy matching. Its aim is paid roles lasting at least six months by March 2027. Programme targets should be distinguished from verified placements or funding secured.
